Charlotte Walmsley

Charlotte Walmsley is a PhD student co-supervised by Professor Hanna Diamond at Cardiff University and Professor Nuria Capdevila-Argüelles at the University of Exeter. Her project sits within Modern Languages and History, exploring the phenomenon of public violence against women, focusing particularly on practices of head shaving and humiliation, in the aftermath of conflict following the Spanish Civil War and the Liberation of France. Charlotte’s research interests include: gender, violence, memory and transnationalism. She recently organised an Institute of Modern Languages Research conference entitled ‘Transnational Memory, Translation and Adaptation’ and is currently am co-heading the South, West and Wales DTP’s ‘Gender and Sexuality’ research cluster.
